According to concerned sources, new members are being assigned after security clearance to replace the withdrawn members. Last month, a letter was sent from the Secretariat Security Branch of the Ministry of Home Affairs to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) regarding this matter.
The letter stated that it is necessary to gradually transfer long-serving members deployed at the Secretariat's entrances, various ministries, and sensitive departments and appoint new members.
According to concerned sources, the transfer list includes three police inspectors, one sergeant, five sub-inspectors (SI), 16 assistant sub-inspectors (ASI), 12 naiks, and 132 constables.
Alongside the personnel changes, the Secretariat's security system is being made more technology-dependent. Now, for OTP-based entry of visitors, the National Identity Card (NID) number and the mobile number registered with the NID have been made mandatory. Additionally, work is underway to install about 100 new CCTV cameras, limit the use of several gates, and modernize the visitor management system.
In April this year, a new policy for visitor entry was issued. It has made arrangements for issuing OTP-supported entry passes based on quotas fixed for officials of various levels.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Kazi Abu Sayed, in charge of Secretariat security, said that 82 police members have been transferred so far and the security situation is normal. Surveillance has been further strengthened by adding new CCTV cameras.
Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs (Secretariat Security Branch) Kazi Arifur Rahman said that police members deployed before August 5, 2024, are being gradually withdrawn and new members are taking over. At the same time, the visitor entry system is also being made more modern and secure.
According to security analysts, rotating security personnel at important state installations at regular intervals, digital identity verification, and technology-dependent surveillance systems are part of internationally recognized security strategies.
