Severe gas crisis due to LNG terminal fault, production collapse in industrial areas
Due to a technical fault at the floating LNG terminal in Moheshkhali, gas supply to the national grid has decreased, causing a severe gas crisis in various industrial areas across the country. As a result, production in factories in Narsingdi and Narayanganj is being severely disrupted. Meanwhile, CNG drivers and those involved in transportation are also facing difficulties.

In the industrial city of Narsingdi, due to insufficient gas supply, the working hours of many factories have dropped to a quarter of normal time. As a result, production activities are being hampered, according to those concerned.

On the other hand, the impact of reduced gas supply has also been felt in the industrially rich Narayanganj. Severe gas crisis has emerged across residential, transport, and industrial sectors. Particularly in dyeing and readymade garment factories, production has dropped to about 20 percent. Production of nearly 550 gas-dependent industrial units in the district is being disrupted.

Meanwhile, amidst the gas crisis, transport operators have alleged that some CNG filling stations are illegally filling gas in risky containers. They also claim that this is increasing security risks.

Due to the drop in gas pressure, 33 CNG filling stations in Narayanganj have also become virtually inoperative. This has caused suffering for drivers and passengers of CNG-run vehicles.
