Leader of the Opposition in Parliament and Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami Shafiqur Rahman said, 'Joining the Mecca Pact is Bangladesh's own matter. If Bangladesh takes any decision for the needs and interests of the country and the nation, no one else needs to suffer from breathing difficulties.'
Shafiqur Rahman wrote this in a post on his verified Facebook page around noon today (Thursday).

While discussions are underway about Bangladesh's participation in the 'Mecca Joint Defense Pact', the Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami expressed his position on the matter in a Facebook post.

Recently, news has been published that Bangladesh is positive about joining the Mecca Defense Pact signed among Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Pakistan.
In this regard, on August 24, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humayun Kabir said, 'We are expressing interest in the Mecca Defense Pact. I said, Bangladesh is now a country of recognition (everyone now values Bangladesh), and there is interest.'
