On Sunday, the Internal Resources Division of the Ministry of Finance communicated the decision through separate notifications.

The notification said that after the issuance of the 'Revenue Policy and Revenue Management Ordinance' in May 2025, NBR officials and employees launched a movement opposing it. During the movement, departmental investigations were conducted against the concerned officials on charges of tearing up transfer orders and participating in work stoppages.

As the allegations were proven in the investigation, various punitive measures including temporary suspension and demotion in pay grade were taken against 20 officials. Later, they appealed to the President seeking pardon, which was granted.

Among the officials whose punishments were waived are 20 officials from various levels of NBR, including commissioners, additional tax commissioners, joint tax commissioners, deputy tax commissioners, and revenue officers.

In May and June 2025, the continuous work stoppages caused a deadlock in operations at various NBR offices. Later, although the movement was suspended through the mediation of business leaders, the punitive measures taken against the concerned officials remained in force. Now, on the President's order, those penalties have been withdrawn.
