He said this to journalists on Wednesday after inspecting the venue of the inaugural ceremony of the pilot phase of the Farmer Card programme at Fulgazi Government Pilot High School ground in Feni.
The minister said that in the first phase, 110,165 farmers are coming under the Farmer Card. Among them, on next October 1, 100,047 farmers will be given Tk 2,500 each to buy agricultural inputs. Also, 7,643 farmers in Feni district will receive printed Farmer Cards.
He said that 77 upazilas in 56 districts of the country will be part of tomorrow's event. There is a target to gradually deliver cards and input assistance to 4.3 million farmers within this year. There are plans to bring all farmers in the country under this programme within the next two and a half to three years.
The minister said that the main objective of the Farmer Card programme is to provide assistance in buying agricultural inputs and to easily deliver government benefits to farmers.
