Recently, while investigating multiple robbery incidents, detective police found such a gang. There are allegations that, posing as law enforcement personnel, they pick passengers up in cars, tie their hands and feet, loot their belongings, and leave them in isolated places. Later, the criminals take money as per the contract and quickly leave the area.
On July 6, Md. Khorshed of Chandpur was returning home from the airport with goods including 17 bhori of gold ornaments sent by his Dubai-resident brother. According to the allegation, in Shahbagh, identifying themselves as DB police, the robbers picked him up in a car, looted goods worth Tk 38 lakh, and left him in Rajendrapur of Gazipur.
Intelligence sources claim that after the robbery, members of the gang leave Dhaka. There are also allegations that they have contracts with a certain class of lawyers to get them released on bail.
Deputy Commissioner Md. Ilias Kabir of the Detective Uttara Division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police said that many who commit crimes at the airport and Uttara area quickly leave Dhaka. There are also incidents of getting involved in crime again after being released on bail following arrest. However, he said, robberies have decreased significantly due to police vigilance.
