Regarding the question of what will happen to the patients currently receiving treatment at Ad-Din Hospital after the license revocation, the Director General of Health Services, Professor Prabhat Chandra Biswas, told Prothom Alo, 'Patients should not go to a hospital without a license for treatment. We have requested the authorities to transfer those receiving treatment to a suitable nearby hospital. If they need any assistance, they should inform us.'
On behalf of the Director General of Health Services, the letter to Sheikh Mohiuddin, owner of Ad-Din Hospital, was sent by the Director (Hospitals and Clinics) of the Health Department. The letter further stated, 'You have the legal opportunity to appeal or seek a review of the revocation order with the government within the next 30 days following the license revocation.'
The subject of the letter was mentioned as 'Decision given in response to the show-cause reply of Ad-Din Hospital, 2 Boro Mogbazar, Dhaka.' The letter stated that following the sudden deaths of six newborns on May 27, a show-cause notice was issued on June 4 asking 'why the license of this hospital should not be revoked' based on the report of the investigation committee formed under Section 11(1) of The Medical Practice and Private Clinics and Laboratories (Regulation) Ordinance, 1982. A reply was requested by 5:00 PM on June 7.
In response to that directive, Ad-Din Hospital applied for an extension of the show-cause period on June 7, and the deadline was extended to 5:00 PM on June 9. Referring to this matter, the letter to the owner of Ad-Din Hospital stated, 'Since the reply and explanation provided by your institution on June 9 were not satisfactory to the authorities, the license of your hospital is hereby revoked under Section 11(2)(b) of The Medical Practice and Private Clinics and Laboratories (Regulation) Ordinance, 1982. According to Section 12 of this Ordinance, you have the legal opportunity to appeal or seek a review of the revocation order with the government within the next 30 days following the license revocation.'
