Chhatra Dal leader apologises over shoe-throwing incident at Sayeedi's photo
Ariful Islam Arif, the Chhatra Dal leader who came into the spotlight over the incident of throwing shoes at a picture of Delwar Hossain Sayeedi during a protest programme at Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (Berobi), has apologised on social media.

In a post on his Facebook account on Tuesday (4 August) night, he claimed that he did not see that the banner had a picture of Delwar Hossain Sayeedi at the time of throwing the shoes.

Earlier, on Tuesday afternoon, as part of a previously announced programme, leaders and activists of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal held a protest rally at the main gate of the university. At that time, shoes were thrown at portraits of Jamaat leaders convicted of various war crimes on a banner bearing the word 'Razakar', and various anti-Chhatra Shibir slogans were raised.

The banner contained pictures of former Jamaat leaders Motiur Rahman Nizami, Delwar Hossain Sayeedi, Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mojaheed, Kader Molla, Mir Quasem Ali and several others.

After the incident, facing criticism on social media, Ariful Islam Arif wrote on Facebook, 'Taking only Allah as witness, I am saying that I did not see his picture. Many of you have said many things. But I have not been saddened at all. Because if anyone else had done this to him, I would have done the same too. Even after crying, I cannot console my heart. I am ashamed and apologetic for the pain I have caused to your minds. Everyone, please forgive me.'

His post has created fresh discussion on social media.
