He said this before a rally organized on the occasion of World Habitat Day-2026. He said an initiative has been taken to construct one lakh flats for low-income people. Alongside, initiatives have been taken to formulate and implement master plans in various city corporations, districts and important urban areas.
The minister said that under the master plans, unplanned urbanization must be prevented by building housing, roads, communication and necessary civic infrastructure. Ensuring planned urbanization and housing is one of the government's main goals.
On the occasion of World Habitat Day, a discussion meeting, housing fair and seminar have been organized on October 5 at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre. It has been announced that Prime Minister Tareq Rahman will attend the event as chief guest and inaugurate the housing fair.
In the three-day housing fair, REHAB, the construction sector, banks, RAJUK, the Department of Architecture, the Public Works Department and various organizations will participate. There will be a total of 157 stalls for housing, construction and banking services at the fair.
Besides, World Habitat Day programs will be observed at divisional and district levels across the country. There are also programs to publish commemorative publications, special talk shows and install banners-posters in various places.
